100-knot boats bound for Nottingham
F2 Powerboat Racing World Championship to be contested on UK waters
The F2 World Powerboat Championship, which will once again be contested on UK waters for the first time in 10 years, is set for its appearance at The National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham over the weekend of 15-16 September - and with 24 drivers from around the world reaching speeds in excess of 100 knots, there should be plenty of entertainment on hand for spectators.
Alongside the international contingent expected to attend, Britain will be fielding a strong fleet of home grown competitors, including Owen Jelf (46, Poole), the former F4 World Champion, plus Nottingham-based JPL Racing Team’s Malcolm Goodman (30, St Helen’s) and Ian Andrews (45, Atherstone), a former two times F3 World Champion. And one of the best reasons for the success of this class is the fact that it is a ‘stock engine class’, and any tuning or modification to the original engine is strictly forbidden. This keeps the financial running costs to a minimum for teams and ensures that success will come to the most talented and knowledgeable drivers.
RYA Powerboat Racing Officer, Nikki Drummond, is plainly excited about the weekend: “Taking Powerboat Racing back to Nottingham at this level will really showcase our sport and achievements to a global audience. F2 Powerboat Racing is so exhilarating to watch. The action is fast and furious and spectators won’t be disappointed.”
