The MAT 1220 is a modern IRC racer designed for versatile inshore and offshore performance. Based on proven French-style IRC principles, the design combines medium displacement, pronounced bow overhang, a moderate-draft fin keel, and a refined sail plan to deliver strong corrected-time performance—particularly above 12 knots true wind, while remaining competitive in lighter conditions.
The sail plan is optimised around a low-rated pinhead mainsail, with an optional square-top for increased light-air performance. Base IRC rating is approximately 1.155, rising to around 1.190 with the square-top.
Building on the MAT 1070, the MAT 1220 features a large, open cockpit suitable for both high-level racing and family sailing. The interior is available in multiple configurations, from stripped racing to offshore and racer/cruiser fit-outs.
Designed with SDK Structures, the boat offers a socketed fin keel system (standard fin or deeper bulb), optional twin rudders, and a range of winch configurations. An ORC-optimised configuration is also in development.
Every choice for this boat was made with performance in mind, from the painted lightweight hull to the stiffness-tuned Axxon carbon mast. No expense was spared; full North Sails 3Di wardrobe, carbon deck gear, twin rudders, water ballast, and a cockpit redesigned for pure race efficiency.
She thrives above 12 knots but stays lethal in the light stuff, always punching above her rating. The systems are dialed, the bottom is fresh, and the race inventory is complete.
