2008 Island Packet 465 – Bluewater Cruising Sailboat | Full Keel Offshore Cruiser | “Easy Going”
“Easy Going,” a 2008 Island Packet 465, represents one of the most respected blue water cruising sailboats ever built for serious offshore passage making and comfortable long-range cruising. Designed by Bob Johnson and built by Island Packet Yachts, the Island Packet 465 is widely recognized for its full keel stability, robust construction, and exceptional liveaboard comfort, making it a favorite among sailors planning extended cruising, offshore passages, or coastal exploration. With an overall length of 48.75 feet, this impressive monohull combines traditional seaworthy design with modern sailing convenience, creating a vessel equally suited for experienced offshore sailors and cruising couples seeking a safe, capable yacht for extended adventures.
Island Packet yachts are known throughout the sailing world for their solid fiberglass construction, conservative sail plans, and forgiving handling characteristics, all of which contribute to the 465’s reputation as a dependable bluewater cruising platform. The vessel’s full keel design provides excellent directional stability and tracking in open water, helping reduce fatigue during long passages while also offering additional protection for the rudder and propeller. Whether navigating coastal waters, crossing offshore passages, or anchoring in quiet harbors, the Island Packet 465 is designed to deliver confidence, safety, and comfort in a wide range of sea conditions.
Powering “Easy Going” is a Yanmar 4JH4-TE inboard diesel engine producing 75 horsepower, providing dependable auxiliary power for motoring, docking, and maneuvering in tight marinas. With only approximately 440 hours of use, the engine reflects light usage and offers many seasons of reliable service ahead. Yanmar engines are well regarded throughout the marine industry for their durability, efficiency, and global parts availability, making them an excellent choice for cruising sailors planning extended voyages.
One of the standout features of the Island Packet 465 is its easy-to-manage sail handling system, designed to make sailing comfortable for short-handed crews. “Easy Going” is equipped with a powered furling genoa, furling mainsail, and furling storm jib, allowing the sail plan to be adjusted quickly and safely from the cockpit. This flexible sail configuration enables sailors to reduce sail area easily when conditions change while maintaining balanced sailing performance. The addition of powered winches further simplifies sail handling, making hoisting, trimming, and reefing sails effortless even when sailing with a small crew.
Maneuverability and convenience are enhanced with the inclusion of a bow thruster, which greatly assists with docking and maneuvering in tight marina environments. Whether entering a crowded harbor or positioning the boat in a slip, the bow thruster provides precise control and confidence during low-speed maneuvers. The vessel is also equipped with an electric windlass, making anchor deployment and retrieval easy when anchoring in remote coves or popular cruising destinations.
Below deck, the Island Packet 465 is designed to deliver the comfort and livability expected of a serious cruising yacht. The spacious interior layout features two well-appointed cabins and two heads, providing comfortable accommodations for owners and guests alike. This arrangement allows for both privacy and practicality, making the vessel equally suitable for family cruising, hosting guests, or extended liveaboard use.
The interior of the Island Packet 465 reflects the builder’s reputation for quality craftsmanship and warm traditional styling. Rich wood joinery, thoughtful storage solutions, and a well-planned layout create a welcoming atmosphere that feels both functional and inviting. The main salon offers ample seating and a comfortable gathering space for relaxing after a day on the water, while the galley is designed to support extended cruising with practical workspace and storage.
Large ports and overhead hatches bring natural light and ventilation into the interior, enhancing comfort whether underway or at anchor. The vessel’s beam and thoughtful layout provide excellent interior volume, allowing the Island Packet 465 to function as both a capable offshore cruiser and a comfortable floating home for extended voyages.
Sailors looking for a proven bluewater cruising sailboat will appreciate the Island Packet 465’s combination of stability, safety, and long-range cruising capability. The vessel’s full keel configuration, manageable sail plan, and strong construction make it well suited for offshore sailing, coastal cruising, and island hopping adventures. Many Island Packet owners choose these boats specifically for their reputation as safe, dependable platforms for exploring distant cruising grounds.
For couples planning extended voyages, families seeking a capable cruising yacht, or sailors looking for a comfortable liveaboard sailboat with offshore capability, “Easy Going” offers an excellent opportunity to own a well-respected model in the Island Packet lineup. With its thoughtful sail handling systems, reliable Yanmar diesel engine, and comfortable interior accommodations, this yacht is ready to support both relaxed coastal cruising and ambitious offshore adventures.
The Island Packet 465 continues to be one of the most sought-after models among sailors who value traditional bluewater design combined with modern sailing convenience. With her strong reputation, comfortable layout, and proven offshore pedigree, “Easy Going” is well prepared for her next owner to continue the tradition of safe and memorable cruising.

Manufacturer Description
The 465's large center cockpit provides more than just a comfortable place for your crew to congregate. It provides a safe working area from which you can perform all the necessary adjustments underway. Handholds and support rails are strategically placed to maximize your safety on deck. As beautiful as the 465 is to behold, it's even more appealing below decks. The expansive main saloon boasts more than seven feet of headroom, a well-appointed combination of hand crafted teak furnishings, cabinetry and storage, a nav station that would excite any world cruiser, a gourmet galley fit for a master chef and two of the most spacious staterooms you'll find anywhere. There are three places to take a nice hot shower, two private heads (one adjacent to each stateroom) and one outside at the stern.
Vessel Walkthrough
The Island Packet 465 provides a large center cockpit allowing you to comfortably entertain friends and family while having a safe place out of the weather with everything you need to shorthand sail around the planet. Wide side decks and well placed handrails maximize your safety while the huge aft deck will house several deck chairs or a 10ft dingy.
The Island Packet 465's extra length is derived largely from a modified, extended stern with an aft raked transom which provides the large aft deck and a spacious garage below.
As stunning as the IP 465 is above deck, it's even more appealing below. Entering via the well angled companionway steps, your attention will be drawn to the two full length settees. The large main dining table is hinged which easily allows it to be stowed against the forward bulkhead wine rack which opens up the huge salon for socializing. The main salon boasts more than seven feet of headroom, a well appointed area of hand crafted teak furnishings & joinery, SS handrails on the ceiling and handles throughout the vessel along with ample storage.
To port of the companionway is the deluxe Nav Station that any world cruiser would appreciate. Featuring a high-backed swivel armchair, an IP logo inlaid into the tabletop on a hinge with storage compartments beneath and easy access to the electronics, tank gauges and breaker panels. There is also a wet locker and chart storage compartment within arms length.
The walkthrough galley to starboard is fit for a master chef and includes opening ports on either side, providing great air flow. Equipped with large Corian countertops with molded fiddle boards, gimballed oven/stove, microwave and ample storage throughout make for an excellent galley and cooking space. The generous top-loading fridge and freezer ensure plenty of cold and frozen provisions for those long cruises. Either compartment may be set to cool or freeze as needed and sport a pull-out draw for your favorite beverages.
The two generous state rooms feel more like bedrooms than cabins. Both cabins are built with island queen size beds and massive ensuite heads, vanities, Corian countertops, separate shower stalls with folding acrylic doors and VacuFlush heads. The cabins are separated by salon, Nav station and galley, ensuring privacy.
