Description
Rugged, amazingly ROOMY cat-rigged cruiser designed by Mark Ellis and built to very high standards by Hinterhoeller in Toronto, Canada. A Nonsuch 30 has the approximate waterline length and beam of a 36' modern racer-cruiser, and the beam is carried well forward; the cockpit can comfortably accommodate eight, and what other 30' sailboats can you name with a separate stall shower?
Practical Sailor sums it up nicely by saying, "This is a relatively simple, easily sailed boat for the convivial sailor who doesn't mind being seen in what might be considered an oddball boat with an oddbally interior and an oddball rig. But, the more you look at it, the less oddball it seems: the design combines the distinctive shear, highly cambered roach roof and nearly plumb bow and stem of the Cape Cod-styled catboat with a moderate-aspect-ratio fin keel, low wetted surface and a partially balanced spade rudder below the waterline. The Nonsuch carries its 11'-10" beam out well towards the ends, as is typical of catboats. This results in interior volume and allows for accommodations that are spacious even when compared with much modern designs. Hmm, the more you look at it, the less oddball it seems!"
BREEZIN features nice custom fabricated and polished stainless steel fitting that modifies the mainsheet lead angle--it's a surprising and marked improvement over the original design. Also, this boat is of the bulletproof shaft-through-packing gland design, which is much preferable to the earlier models with sail drives.
