Description

The large and comfortable cruising interior along with the ease of handling make Nonsuch sailboats practical and safe cruisers for west coast use.

The 36 has an excellent balance of space, performance and handling characteristics. This vessel has been well maintained and thoughtfully upgraded by knowledgeable owners and is worthy of close inspection.  The moorage in San Pedro may be available to a buyer.

Owner's Comments

It is with great sadness that I am putting my Nonsuch 36 up for sale. It is hull #3 and was built in 1983. I have owned MeSays for 22 years and have put heart and soul and pocketbook into the boat. The boat and INA (International Nonsuch Association) have been my passion during that whole period. The boat is a turn key cruiser. All systems are operable and most have been either been replaced or rebuilt other than the hull and the mast. Me Says was the test boat for the 2020 review of the Nonsuch 36 in the late Good Old Boat magazine. In addition, in the latest insurance survey by a well known Los Angeles Surveyor in 2021, the boat was rated "beautifully kept by a dedicated owner". The boat is insured with an agreed upon value of $100,000 which is a testament to the boat's condition knowing how hard it is to insure older boats.

The boat sails extremely well and guests marvel at the speeds reached downwind as well as upwind. The sail was replaced in 2021 with a custom full batten tri-radial cut Ullman sail and the boat comes with a second sail which was converted from a quarter batten sail to a full batten sail in 2021 and has the Strong Track slides. Most running rigging was replaced in 2022 with dyneema lines, as well as all blocks and the Harken 46 electric winch being replaced that year. A new “stack pack” sail cover was added in 2022, custom made for the boat and the sail falls into the

cover when lowered. The mast has been inspected on an annual basis and is in excellent shape. The cockpit custom cockpit cushions are blue sunbrella matching the other covers. They have not been used since I bought the boat so they are in excellent condition.

The engine was replaced in 2019 with a Westerbeke 56 diesel which has approximately 200 hours. Three new group 31 AGM batteries were installed at that time. The boat has two fuel tanks which carry about 80 gallons. The tanks were cleaned in 2024 and all new fuel was added. The engine oil has been changed annually so the oil is clean. The engine has a remote oil filter making oil changes easier.

The hull is the original grey with a blue boot-stripe gel coat which sparkles and recently dings were repaired. All exterior teak has been religiously professionally varnished every six months.

The dodger and covers for the four cabin top hatches were replaced in 2025 and the polycarbonate hatch glass was replaced in 2018. There is a new and never used bimini and center piece with windows to see the top of the mast with all stainless steel frames and a partial enclosure.

The boat has ten opening hatches in excellent condition. Additional ventilation is provided by four cowl vents with teak dorade boxes and two solar fans in the cabin top. The boat is extremely dry inside because of the excellent ventilation.

The boat has Atkins and Hoyle davits with rigging and comes with a brand new in the box West Marine dinghy. There is a 6 horsepower Nissan four stroke outboard with a new tank and hose and an electric trolling motor. The boat has a Garhauer motor lifter which converts to the base for a Weber grill. There is also a gorgeous teak boarding ladder which attaches on the starboard side at the gate.

A Vetus windlass is at the bow and the 200 feet of 10 mm chain was added in 2008. There are four anchors, a 20 kg bruce, a 35 Lb Delta, a CQR and a fluke traditional lunch hook. Chain and additional anchors are stored below deck in a chain locker reachable thru a door inside the boat. There is a teak anchoring platform at the bow.

At the helm there are six instruments for wind, electronic compass, VMG, below deck autopilot, knot meter and depth. All navigation electronics were replaced in 2017 and the head unit was replaced in 2022 by Garmin. The MFD is a Garmin 9 inch display with sonar connected. At the chart table there are two VHF radios including a radio with AIS receiver. One is from 2010 and the AIS radio was installed in 2017. There is also a Garmin chart plotter at the chart table and there a two personal rescue beacons.

The propane locker at the stern has three nearly new ten pound propane tanks and there is a hose to connect the large tanks to the custom barbecue.

Me Says is a sturdy and beautiful boat in excellent condition.

Accommodations

Capable of sleeping 6 owners and guests; 2 in forward double berth cabin, 1 on single settee to port in main salon, 1 on single settee to starboard in main salon and 2 in starboard aft double quarter cabin.

The spacious interior plan features an enclosed cabin forward with large double berth offset to port. To starboard is the hanging locker, custom chest of drawers and vanity with sink. The main salon has an L-shaped settee to port, a central drop leaf table and a single settee to starboard. Large cupboards and storage shelves are outboard of the settees.

The galley is aft of the settee to starboard and set away from the traffic through the salon. The galley features a gimballed propane stove with oven, double stainless steel sinks with hot and cold pressurized water, refrigerated icebox, microwave oven, dish and pantry storage and plenty of counter space.

Opposite the galley is the head with a separate shower stall. The main salon can be separated from the aft cabin by a bi-fold door. Access to the head is possible from both the main cabin area and the aft cabin area.  To starboard aft is a large double quarterberth and to port a navigation station with chart table, instruments, navigator's seat and hanging locker.

The huge cockpit provides lots of room for seating and sailing. The helm is aft with the mainsheet winch to starboard and the control lines are all led aft to the coach roof.  There is an electric halyard/sheet winch mounted on the port cockpit coaming in addition to the manual winch on the coach roof.

Comfortable, fast and easily handled these boats are excellent Pacific Northwest cruisers for couples or families.  Me Says is a well cared for and well updated vessel that is ready to cruise.
