The Valiant 40 is a wonderful and safe live aboard sailing yacht, powerful, fast and comfortable for the single-hander or an entire cruising family.

The first owner essentially used  her as a “day boat, week-ender” and finally  she has been a live aboard home for her current  owners with cruises to the Caribbean and Bermuda.  Third owners sailed the Florida Keys and Bahamas.

“FOGGY” is set up for comfortable life aboard as well as serious offshore passage making. “FOGGY” is available immediately and there is none finer equipped, in her league!!! SHE IS LOCATED IN FLORIDA.

“FOGGY” is a perfect example of a classic Perry offshore designed Valiant 40’s to come on the market. Her classic lines incorporate a tumble home stern, bulwarks, dorades, opening ports, wire rigging and quality construction. The Valiant 40 is a modern classic.  Performance has become synonymous with Valiant and is in no small way, responsible for its success. Sail Magazine selected the Valiant 40 as the “Offshore Cruiser of the Decade.”  As a modern classic, “FOGGY” is one of the rare, POST BLISTER ERA  built Valiant 40’s to come on the market. She has 7 opening ports all with screens and new tempered glass, and 4 deck hatches.   She is a modern version of the famous “traditional layout” Valiant 40’ which has taken more sailors on circumnavigations, than any other production yacht.

Accomdationa & Layout

With over 6’4” of headroom, “FOGGY” is highly customized and styled with the heritage of the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations; bright, well ventilated and finished in furniture quality teak. She was built with the much sought after, traditional Side Entry deck design, three cabin layout.

The overhead is drop-down Formica panels with teak battens for ease of equipment installation and inspection of below deck fittings. She features private accommodations for two couples in separate cabins, plus settee berths and a port side pilot berth for additional guests or passage making. There is a large comfortable private stateroom forward with a large queen sized V-berth with large hatch for light and ventilation. There is ample storage under the berth and hanging lockers with shelving, and shelf top storage to port and starboard above the berth.

OWNERS DESCRIPTION OF THE MAIN SALOON:

Custom built fixed table attached to mast and forward bulkhead w/folding leaf to accommodate those sitting on the starboard side settee.  Book case, small locker and a drawer are above and behind starboard settee.  Refrigeration system mounted in port side aft locker behind settee back cushion.  Storage lockers behind all other settee back cushions.  Kerosene trawler lamp over table that is secured to table to prevent it from swinging.  Under the two forward most removable floor boards shelves have been installed above the bilge area of the keel.  While these shelves are technically in the bilge that have proven to be dry storage for heavier food items like canned goods and bottled water/soda.

OWNERS DESCRIPTION OF THE GALLEY:

OWNERS DESCRIPTION OF THE GALLEY:

The stove/oven is a Force 10 SS unit that uses Propane.  there is a valve below the oven that turns the Propane on/off.  As well as an electrical control panel above and to the left of the stove which operates the solenoid located in the Propane tank compartment at the aft end of the cockpit.

Under the stove is a drop down door to access a small compartment. Forward of the stove is the counter that houses the top loading refrigerator and freezer boxes (the refrigerator is outboard and the freezer inboard).

The top cover insulation was improved by installing Glacier Bay vacuum insulation panels.  The refrigerator is 5.5 cu. ft. and the freezer is 4.3 cu. ft.

On the counter outboard of the refrigerator access is a series of shelves that are designed to hold different sized plates and bowls.  Above and to the right of the plate and bowl caddy are the refrigeration thermostats.   Aft of the stove is a large top loading dry locker.  Above and outboard of the stove is a compartment that is accessed thru two sliding doors.  The aft compartment has two shelves and the forward compartment has two shelves.  In the forward compartment the bottom shelf has holes that allow the insertion of wood dowels.  These dowels can be placed to prevent items like pots and pans from sliding around.

Aft of the stove, in the U-shaped galley is the double sink (one deep sink and one shallower) the sinks are part of a SS counter top around them similar to what you typically find in a professional kitchen.  the faucet in the galley is a Grohe unit that is operated with one handle and has a nozzle with a spray option that can be pulled out to allow spraying dishes On the bulkhead below the sink are the Spectra water maker gauges and hour meter for the water maker.  Below the gauges are two doors that access a large locker with two shelves.  On the backside of the doors are holders for cooking pot covers.  To the left of the sink below the counter are one small drawer and three larger ones.  Above the sink are two doors that provide access to two compartments, the inboard one has two shelves and the outboard one has one shelf.

On the bulkhead below the cabinets and above the sink there are one cup holder unit and one glass holder unit.  On the bulkhead above the dry locker is a spice rack and a paper towel holder.  In front of the stove there is a SS safety tube with integrated places to connect a safety strap.  There are two other pad eyes located strategically in the galley to allow a person to safely work in different position other than right in front of the stove.

OWNERS DESCRIPTION OF THE NAV STATION:

Above the nav table there is a custom shelf that holds the ICOM-710 SSB and storage for manual and other small items, radar detector control and an adjustable shelf that securely holds a laptop for use while underway (the shelf swivels and locks out over the table for use underway and then locked out of the way for chart work).  Above the aforementioned shelf is another shelf where the Pactor modem is secured. Above the chart table is a red LED light on the end of an adjustable neck.  Next to the nav seat is the electrical panel below which is another small compartment/shelf that has served well as a place to logs, books and various other items.

On the bulkhead behind the nav seat is a cushion above which is the control panel for the Trace Inverter, engine start switches, engine gauges, a Blue Sea Systems digital volt/amp display for the inverter and the alarm for high water in the bilge.  The nav table top lifts up to access storage under.  Also under the nav table outboard is an additional storage compartment to storing infrequently used items.  There is also a shelf locker under the nav table containing two shelves that is quite large.

Under the nav seat cushion there is a top access compartment that houses the Jabsco bilge pump and filter.  This compartment has also served as a good place to store cleaning supplies.  In the overhead above the nav station is the air inlet from the Dorade vent.  Further ventilation is provided by an opening port in the side of the cabin house above the nav table.

OWNERS DESCRIPTION OF THE HEAD:

As mentioned previously the head has a separate shower in which there is a SS tube just below the overhead for hanging clothing hangers on.  This has worked well for hanging wet or damp items for drying.  The shower has a seat incorporated into the fiberglass that makes up the shower bulkheads. There is also a light in the shower stall.  THE TOILET IS AN AIRHEAD COMPOSTING TOILET. Behind the toilet is a drop down compartment door that reveals a decent sized compartment that goes all the way out to the hull.

Next to the toilet is a  compartment that provides access to thru hull valves and serves as storage for cleaning supplies and the toilet paper holder is installed on one wall of this compartment.  The head's sink is installed in the counter above and behind the toilet.  The sink has a Grohe fixture that is operated with a single handle.  Above the sink there is a door that was added to access previously wasted storage space, it's a great.

To the left of the sink, above the counter, behind the toilet are two doors that allow access to two storage shelves.  Attached to the overhead is an Alpenglow fluorescent/LED red light that has a toggle switch on its side.  the toggle switch turns a light on in the shower's overhead.  Also in the overhead of the head is a deck prism and a Vetus SS mushroom vent.  the vent can be open and closed from the inside or on deck.  Also attached to the overhead is a 12 volt 3 speed fan.

In the side of the cabin house in the head is an opening port.  Secured to the aft bulkhead is a hand hold.  Also net storage bags are attached to the aft bulkhead, these have been handy for storing oft used small items.

ELECTRICAL:

One AC Outlet is located on the starboard side of the companionway. This outlet has a breaker near it and is connected directly to the inverter. It was installed to be used when the boat is on the hard in a country that does not have 120V 60Hz power to run our power tools.

The battery charger will run on virtually any power source so it would charge the batteries while the inverter would power our power tools. At the aft end, the deepest point in the bilge, there is a float switch for the bilge pump and a float switch for a high water alarm. The bilge pump is located under the nav station seat and the bilge alarm is on the bulkhead behind the nav station seat.

OWNERS DESCRIPTION OF THE AFT STATEROOM:

Underneath the bunk are three compartments, the forward one is storage, the middle one is the house battery compartment and the aft compartment contains the hot water heater, Spectra Clark pump/membrane assembly, the Shurflo freshwater pressure pump for the pressure water system.  It should be noted that all of these top loading compartments are secured closed with slide bolt latches.  To access these compartments, you have to lift the mattress to allow longer periods of access there are webbing straps that are pulled up and secured to a cleat on the inboard bulkhead.  Doing this holds the mattress to perform things like check the water level in the batteries.

Below the bunk are two small doors that allow access to the controls and pump for the water maker.  On the forward bulkhead is a mirror, the ship's bell, a hand bearing compass and a fold down writing desk.  Below the writing desk is a bungee cord with a hook.  This bungee cord/pad eye arrangement is used to secure the companionway steps when they have been removed to access the engine room.

Facing aft in the stateroom you will see a seat that can be disassembled to allow engine transmission and V-Drive

access.  Above the seat on the inboard bulkhead are the main switches for the house and engine start batteries.  The ACR EPIRB which has a wire running to it, the wire feeds the EPIRB GPS location data when any of the GPS's are turned on.  Just above, the previously mentioned, seat cushion on the aft bulkhead from right to left are the pull switch for the saltwater washdown pump, anchor windlass circuit breaker, 12v outlet to plug to power the Surface Dive air compressor, a 12v cigarette outlet and the main circuit breaker for the refrigeration system.  Above those items is the door for a locker with two shelves inside.

Above that locker is the remote display panel for the Mastervolt battery charger.  bove that display panel is another door that provides access to the back side of the cockpit mounted instruments and a small storage area.  Installed in the door itself are the primary displays used for monitoring the boat's 12 volt system.  The following displays are mounted here: Mastervolt BTM-III battery monitoring unit, Blue Sea Systems 8428 DC Multimeter that displays voltage and current reading, the Solar Boost Remote monitoring panel for monitoring solar panel charging and a House battery box temperature display that has one sensor near battery #1 and one near battery #2.

OWNERS MISC: LAYOUT DESCRIPTION:

The companionway steps have on-skid material on their tops and the non-skid has yellow reflector strips along the front edge making for fewer slips at night.  In the cockpit the control for the Monitor wind vane steering system has been lead forward to near the companionway entrance at the bridge deck.  This allows the person on watch to adjust the vane without having to leave the cover of the Dodger. The Dodger, Bimini, connecter between them and the dinghy cover are made of Stamoid which is, quite durable, vinyl covered sailcloth.

The mainsheet track is Harken roller bearing type.  The Genoa tracks are Harken roller bearing type where the fore and aft adjustment of the Genoa car is done with a line that is led to the cockpit.  All halyards and sheets are also led to the cockpit.  The boat's VHF radio has a remote mike in the cockpit.  There are several thru bolted pad eyes installed on the caprail to facilitate various sheeting angles.

There are thru bolted pad eyes in the cockpit used for the attachment of safety harnesses.  Also there are two pad eyes towards the aft end of the cockpit installed in the side of the coaming.  These pad eyes are used to connect blocks that allow running the Monitor wind vane lines to the Emergency Tiller in the event of wheel steering failure.  Note the Emergency Tiller has been modified for attachment of the steering lines.  The inside of the cockpit coaming has various sized bags attached to it to organize all of the lines.

ABOVE DECK HARDWARE & SAFETY:

The topsides of “FOGGY” features a large unobstructed deck and cabin top. Safe and secure deck work is ensured with raised bulwarks, heavy stanchion bases with double lifelines and full length teak handrails on the coachroof.  The large and comfortable cockpit is self bailing with oversized scuppers, designed for safety and comfort in heavy weather sailing. Excellent visibility from all positions is consistent with the proven offshore features and capabilities that the sailing world has come to know as “generic” to a Valiant yacht.

The mast is keel stepped, hull color is white and the whale stripe IS a deep rich blue. The dodger is White Stamoid that has hand rails and solar panel attachments incorporated into the dodger’s frame.  The dodger also has covers to put over the windows, side windows have zipper for removal and the front windows have zippers to allow the front windows to be rolled up for more air flow.

The Bimini is white Stamoid with a stainless steel frame work that supports two 320 watt solar panels.

OWNERS MISC.COMMENTS, OTHER FEATURES & REMARKS:

One of the "one of a kind" features of "Foggy" is the engine room, as it has a work bench with a full size vise bolted to it. Above and below the bench top are various storage cabinets and drawers.  To facilitate working at the bench (or on the engine) there is a stool secured to the hull between the bench and the engine.  These are features seldom found in a 40 foot boat.  Another of these one of a kind features is the dinghy cradle mounted on the cabin house forward of the mast.

“FOGGY” IS A 4-owner yacht which was custom designed and built for her  owner. She is being offered by her owners who have decided to make a life-style change and have now placed this beautiful yacht on the brokerage market for her next discriminating owner.  She is a rare find, crewed by experienced sailors. Manuals, warranties and original brochures aboard, will be passed on to her new owner.
