Description

1980 C&C 34 "Pau Hana" - Well-Maintained Cruiser/Racer

Video Walkthrough Available: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8gcAZTtKi

This well-maintained C&C 34 has been an excellent platform for both cruising and racing over the past two years. "Pau Hana" has proven herself on passages to Catalina and Oceanside, as well as regular sailing between San Diego Bay and Mission Bay.

Saloon:

  • L-shaped settee converts to comfortable double berth
  • Folding center table
  • Atmospheric lighting with kerosene and electric lamps
  • Lee cloth on port side for secure off-watch sleeping

V-Berth:

  • Cozy forward cabin suitable for two
  • Large overhead hatch for excellent ventilation

Head:

  • Complete head system rebuilt this year with all new valves and lines
  • Simplified plumbing with holding tank or direct overboard discharge options
  • 12V pump-driven faucet doubles as shower head
  • Water heater for hot water showering

Galley:

  • Compact but functional layout suitable for day sailing and extended cruising
  • Refrigeration system requires recharge but functions effectively as icebox
  • Stove in good working order (oven heating element needs replacement)
  • Foot-pedal and pump-driven faucets

Cockpit:

  • Well-appointed with pedestal-mounted engine controls and compass
  • Recently rebuilt autopilot performs reliably even in 7+ foot seas
  • Comfortable snap-in cushions
  • Cockpit sleeping arrangement possible with included plywood insert - ideal for overnight passages
  • Deep starboard lazarette provides primary engine and fuel system access
  • Aft propane locker
  • Transom-mounted swim ladder

Deck Hardware:

  • All running rigging leads to cockpit for easy single-handed or short-handed sailing
  • Winches in good condition
  • Electric windlass handles anchor retrieval with two stainless steel anchors, chain, and rode included

Sails:

  • Mainsail: Good condition with remaining service life
  • Genoa: Good condition, properly rigged
  • Jib: Good condition
  • Symmetrical spinnaker: Included
  • All running rigging in serviceable condition

Engine: Yanmar 2GM

  • Reliable and fuel-efficient (approximately 5 gallons for 13-hour passage to Avalon)
  • Requires cosmetic paint work but mechanically sound with proper maintenance
  • Note: Fuel lines require replacement as they occasionally allow air intrusion in rough conditions, easily remedied by bleeding lines

Additonal equipment:

  • Dodger frame with canvas (currently removed, included with sale)
  • Winch handles and additional lines
  • Fenders and dock lines
  • Spare parts inventory
  • All equipment needed for immediate sailing

Condition notes:

  • Standing rigging has not been recently updated but showed no issues from the deck during professional survey two years ago
  • Deck requires minor cosmetic paint touch-ups in spots
  • Portlights need re-caulking

Professional survey available from two years ago.

Serious inquiries welcome. Survey and detailed maintenance records available upon request. Boat available for inspection by appointment.

Accommodations

Sailing: Mainsail and rigged Genoa have plenty of life in them, as does the jib and symmetrical spinnaker she comes with. Running rigging is in good condition, nothing needing replacing right away. Same goes for winches. Standing rigging has not been updated in a while, but no issues were found when I had the boat surveyed a couple of years ago. All running rigging is controllable from the cockpit and the boat is relatively easy to sail single-handed. With two of us, we rarely need any additional hands unless we fly the spinnaker.

Saloon: Folding center table has been host to a few dinner parties and game nights, with the kerosene lamp and electric lamps sending off a warm glow. The L-shaped berth folds out into a double berth - a good size for a couple. Lee cloth on the port side, making a cozy off-shift nap spot. Plenty of storage for how streamlined the boat is.

V-Berth: Cozy for two, with big hatch for ventilation.

Head: I replaced the entire head system (minus the toilet itself) this year. All valves and lines are new and very clean. Cleaned the holding tank and simplified the plumbing to go to holding tank or straight overboard when offshore. Head faucet can be used as a shower head and is driven by 12V pump. Water heater makes for a nice shower.

Cockpit: Nice pedestal with engine controls and compass. Rebuilt the autopilot this year and it's been great even on the few 7ft+ days we've taken her out to see what she could do. Cushions snap in and are pretty comfortable. I stashed a piece of plywood under the v-berth that can turn the cockpit into a giant outdoor bed - perfect for the Catalina passages. Deep lazarette on starboard side, which is the primary access to the engine and fuel system. Propane cylinder aft of that. Swim ladder off the back.

Odds and ends: Included in sale is everything shown minus some personal items. Deck could use some touchup paint in spots, but has been fine for what I've been doing with it. Portlights need new caulking. Comes with two SS anchors, with chain and rode pulled in with an electric windlass. Has a dodger frame with canvas, I just took it off since I prefer the open air. All canvas will come with the boat. Winch handles, extra lines, fenders, spare parts, etc. included - she'll be ready to sail day one.

Mechanical Equipment

Yanmar 2GM20. Needs some paint, but bombproof if you keep up with the oil changes and fuel filters. Fuel lines need replacing - in rough seas, they let air in and choke the engine. I've polished the fuel and found nothing in the filters, but this pops up occasionally and is fixed with a quick bleeding of the lines. Sips fuel slowly - motored to Avalon for 13hrs and used about 5 gallons total. Access is a bit tough, but doable for every major job.

Galley Equipment

Rather small galley, but has been sufficient for daysails and small trips. The refrigeration needs a recharge, but has worked fine as an icebox for multi-day trips. Stove works fine, oven needs a new heating element. Sink has foot-pedal and pump-driven faucets.

Deck and Hull Equipment

Swim ladder off the back and a spinnaker pole with mounts on the deck. All lines led back to cockpit for easy short-handed sailing.

Navigation Systems

GPS and Radar at the Nav station.
