Cal 2-46 Classic Bluewater Cruiser

The boat is a beautiful example of the legendary Bill Lapworth–designed Cal 2-46, a respected bluewater cruising yacht known for its strength, seaworthiness, and comfortable long-range capabilities. With only 129 vessels ever built, the Cal 2-46 remains one of the most sought-after classic cruising yachts of its era.

This vessel has benefited from excellent local ownership and ongoing improvements throughout her life. She represents a rare opportunity to own a proven offshore cruiser with a strong pedigree and timeless design. She has travelled the West coast from Alaska to Mexico many times.

The Cal 2-46 was conceived from the outset as a true world cruising yacht, designed and built specifically for comfortable offshore passages rather than coastal sailing alone. Her long shoal-draft keel combined with a large spade rudder provides excellent directional stability, forgiving handling, and dependable performance in offshore conditions.

Under power, the Perkins 4-236 diesel (85 HP) provides reliable cruising at approximately 8.5 knots, offering an impressive range of roughly 1,200 miles. Under sail, the Cal 2-46 is known for her balanced sail plan, efficient hull shape, and comfortable motion at sea.

The deck and cockpit layout are designed for easy short-handed sailing, with well-placed controls and a protected steering position. Below deck, the spacious interior offers a three-cabin layout, generous living space, and the warm character of traditional Burmese teak joinery.

Key interior features include:

      Large forward cabin

Bright and open main salon with excellent visibility

      Private aft owner’s stateroom

      Two enclosed heads with shower

      Walk-in engine room

      Hot and cold pressure water

      Classic teak interior finish throughout

The Cal 2-46 blends traditional offshore design with practical cruising comfort, making her a favorite among sailors planning extended passages or liveaboard adventures.

Bella Lupa is a rare opportunity to own a well-maintained example of this iconic offshore cruiser.
