Description
Most flats boats in today’s market have a cramped cockpit fishing area where space has been consumed by an enlarged front casting platform. In addition, these boats have shallow cockpit sides ranging from only 10” to 14” in height. This limits the number of people that can fish both comfortably and safely. However, the new Young 20 has solved this problem with a spacious, uncluttered 6’10” by 8’1” cockpit fishing area with sides over 20” in height. The Young 20 achieved this roomy layout without compromising performance or appearance. The graceful curvature of the reverse sheer line, which is the signature of this exclusive hull design, creates higher cockpit sides and acts as a built-in hull stiffener. This not only provides an attractive, functional and safe layout but also translates into a smooth, dry, and stable ride that must be experienced to believe.
The beautiful lines of the Young 20 not only give it an attractive appearance - but each also serve a specific function in the performance and ride of our boats. The graceful curvature of the sheer line, which is the signature of our hull design, acts as a built-in hull stiffener and creates high cockpit sides. Full wide chines are reversed to knock down spray directing it away from the hull. A set of deep running strakes provides lift and control. The well-balanced hull requires little to no trim and jumps on a plane quickly. The V-bottom has a very sharp entry that easily slices through a chop, while its wide 8' beam gives the hull remarkable side-to-side stability and shallow draft. Taken altogether, these features ensure an extremely smooth, dry, and comfortable ride that must be experienced to believe.
Every Young hull is hand laminated using advanced knitted fiberglass and lightweight resins. We use premium gelcoats that are extremely durable with non-fading anti-discoloration properties to help maintain high luster and smooth finish.
No wood is used in Young Boats. Decks, cockpits, and hatches are cored with high performance, lightweight, closed-cell foam. Full-height stringers and transoms use a high-density structural composite, which is backed by a lifetime warranty, and are bonded into the hull while in the mold, where both are fully cured together for 5 to 7 days. This process creates a good primary bond and keeps our hulls true in every dimension. Young Boat’s assembly process ensures that the hull, deck, cockpit and stringer system are all bonded together to form one rugged structural unit.
All storage compartments and live wells on the Young 20 are plumbed overboard with shut-off valves. This ensures that the bilge area remains dry. All wiring and fuel hoses are fully sleeved in PVC for protection. The Young 20 also incorporates a separate compartment below the console for the trolling motor batteries. This keeps the weight (center of gravity) of the batteries low and preserves storage space in the console. All hatches, hull and deck undersides are gel coated and finished. This protects the fiberglass surface and aids in maintaining a clean appearance.
