Protector boats are known for their tremendous hull strength, robust construction, offshore performance and versatility. These New Zealand-built vessels were originally designed for rigorous Coast Guard work and have since been adapted for pleasure boating, offering a unique blend of safety, stability, and speed.
The core of the Protector 28 is its solid, hand-laid fiberglass deep-V hull, designed for exceptional strength and smooth handling in rough water. This is complemented by durable Hypalon UV/oil resistant inflatable tubes, typically divided into seven separate chambers. These tubes provide significant shock absorption, stability, and additional flotation, enhancing safety and performance compared to traditional hard-sided boats.
This 28' Protector Targa model features a cuddy cabin below with 6'4" headroom and will provide additional seating or sleeping for two adults (twin fore/aft bunks, often 7' long). The aft cockpit offers seating for multiple adults (often up to 6), and both the forward and aft cockpits commonly feature integrated stainless steel tow posts, making them ideal for towing operations or watersports.
The helm station is well-equipped for offshore navigation, often featuring a full array of electronics such as chartplotters, radar, autopilot, VHF radio, and a compass. These boats are designed with ample storage, often boasting multiple protected storage areas throughout.
Powered by Upgraded Twin Yamaha F150XB (2018) outboard engines the 28' Protector is known for its impressive performance. It can achieve cruising speeds around 30-35 knots and top speeds often exceeding 45 knots, providing a fast and efficient ride. The Protector TARGA design offers a fully enclosed cabin design with comfortable deck space, seating for up to 10 adults, two 7' bunks, electric head and secure storage for overnight boating. Optional TARGA cabin tops include a full glass windshield hard-top, a 3/4 windshield hard-top and a 3/4 windshield canvas top with a stainless steel frame. The TARGA's solid laminate, fiberglass hull is built for strength and safety and the chambered hypalon tubes provide shock absorption, stability and additional flotation. Together, the deep-V hull and UV resistant tubes create unmatched safety and performance compared to traditional hard sided boat designs.
