Pura Vida is a Cruiser/Racer great for practical weekend cruising or club racing. There are about 450 hulls built from 1985 to 1993 by the Finot Group to accommodate small families and even solo sailors. She’s spirited, yet easily manageable and responsive. She is moderately displaced, with a relatively wide beam and holds a category B rating suitable for offshore sailing with winds up to Force 8 and waves to 13’ which makes her suitable for most coastal and near shore use, including the great lakes. She has a traditional masthead sloop that provides a sail plan that is easy to handle. She has a fin keel and a spade rudder. Her sugar-scoop cockpit is self-bailing and has ergonomic compfort whether racing or cruising. The boat sails well in light to moderate winds, with a nice response and feel at the helm. She tracks nicely. She handles well in heavier air and when she blows harder, is reefable. In the cabin with teak and holly floors,  there is near 6’ headroom with a surprising spacious interior provided by the wider beam. The finish is nice offering an inviting and warm feel. There are berths for 6 adults in two cabins. The V-berth is 6’11”, the two settees are 5’2” and the quarter berth is 6’2”. The main salon table is center-mounted. The galley has reasonable storage for cruising and across there is a nav station besides the enclosed head. Opening hatches and ports offer good cross ventilation. The deck layout is clean. Lines leading aft to the cockpit enhance short handed sailing. She’s a nice combination of a fun coastal cruiser and a casual racer. Best of all, she’s affordable, responsive under sail with a practical, thoughtful interior. Owner’s comments: “It really is a lovely boat. Beautifully designed and a mix of moder and classic details.  She sails very easily single-handed. She’s fast, a shallow draft, tolerates high winds and moves very nimbly in the marina under motor. She parks on a dime. She is larger below than her length would suggest. The Doyle Stack Pack makes getting out easy. She’s kid-proofed with safety nets on life lines all around. They sailed comfortably with their children”.  Originally from Chicago, she’s fresh water only. Owner keeps up with annual maintenance (filters, bottom paint, etc.).
