Description

1951 Chris-Craft 55 Contessa Motor Yacht

In 1951 Chris Craft, a major boat manufacturer built an elegant, classie 55' Motor Yacht, featuring mahogany wood throughout the aft deck, salon and stateroom. This exquisite yacht is powered by two Detroit 671 GMC Diesel engines, 250 horse power each, and a lighting plant onboard to power the boat and generate electricity and heat. In 1967 Captain William C. (Bill) Harris purchased this yacht in Florida and named her the Wendebee Il after his two daughters, Wendy and Debbie. He sailed her in the Atlantic Ocean from Florida to New York, up the Hudson River, through the Erie Canal, through the Great Lakes System to Thunder Bay, Ontario, traveling a distance of approximately 4800 kms. (3,000 miles) and sailed through 33 Locks. The Wendebee II was then put on two railway flat cars and
was transported to Winnipeg, Manitoba and launched into the Red River. In Winnipeg, Captain Bill Harris owned a very successful company in the heavy construction business. He used the Wendebee II as a private pleasure craft for many years. During that time guests aboard included Princess Anne, Prince Charles and many government officials and
dignitaries from Ottawa and other parts of Canada. Between 1988 and 2000, Captain Bill operated the yacht as a charter vessel for public enjoyment and business promotion. He catered numerous weddings, anniversaries, dinner cruises and general cruising. The Wendebee II was once again honoured with Princess Anne's presence
during her visit to Winnipeg for the Pan American Games in the summer of 1999. In September 2000, the Wendebee II was purchased by Captain Bill's nephew. She was transported 725 kms from Winnipeg by special truck specifically designed to transport large vessels, to her new home in Lake Diefenbaker. On July 27, 2001, her launch into Lake Diefenbaker at Danielson Provincial Park was assisted by
two cranes required to move the 44,000 Lbs. vessel into the water.

This vessel boasts a distinguished history, having catered to some of the most important and noteworthy individuals over the years. Now available for private ownership, it offers a rare opportunity to enjoy a yacht with true pedigree.

Despite its age, the boat presents itself exceptionally well and stands as a testament to the meticulous care it has received throughout its life. Every detail has been consistently maintained to the highest standards, both mechanically and cosmetically, ensuring it remains in outstanding condition. From its gleaming finishes to its reliable systems, the pride of ownership is evident at every turn.

This is more than just a boat, it’s a piece of history, perfectly preserved and ready to deliver unforgettable experiences for its next owner!
