German upgrades and highlights

Discover "NAN", a historic classic motor yacht (15 meters/50Ft), designed by the renowned American Ed Monk Sr as Plan No. 1. This prestigious ship, a unique piece with no equal, served as a home and architectural office for Ed Monk and his family for many years. "NAN" is an award-winning yacht, having won first place in the International Cruisers Race in 1946 and other placements until 1956, and received accolades from the Classic Yacht Association from 2000 to 2005. Until 2006, it was owned in America, after which "NAN" was transported to Germany via deck cargo, where it has since caused a stir in every port and has already played a leading role in two German TV documentaries (ARD and 3Sat, 2020 and 2021). Take this unique opportunity to acquire a piece of maritime history.

Welcome aboard the "NAN". 

Upon entering the ship, you are impressed by the exceptional craftsmanship and the care with which it was built and maintained by its previous owners on both sides of the Atlantic. The boatbuilding tradition of the Monk family, which has been crafting wooden ships for generations, is evident in the use of the highest quality materials that continue to define the excellent condition of "NAN" to this day. Over time, the ship has been continuously restored, upgraded, and maintained at reputable shipyards, preserving its nearly original luster. The entire interior is still in its original condition. Extensive interior renovations took place in 2009 and 2017, while exterior restorations were carried out in 2009, 2017, and most recently in 2021, totaling over €300,000.

Upgrades and Highlights:

• Extensive restoration of the teak wood swim platform and stern, deck, and hull at Bültjer Boat Yard, a German shipyard specializing in wooden yachts). This included partially new planks, wood care and teak reconstruction, complete repainting of the outer skin and anti-fouling protective coating, and the construction of a davit for the dinghy made of oak, etc. (Total cost 2021: €165,000)

• New windows including new Douglas fir frames in the salon and cockpit area, custom-made and insulated (Cost 2021: €12,000)

• New 32-A shore connection and 3-pole/5-pole 16A/32A adapters (50m length + extension cable) with surge protection switch and a fire protection switch (AFDD+FI/LS- circuit breaker C63-30 mA Type A) used in professional shipbuilding

• New high-gloss polished stainless steel anchor and matching anchor chain (2021)

• Complete rewiring (2009), bow thruster added (2009) and complete interior restoration (2017 by Winkler Shipyard with total costs of: €160,000)

• Dishwasher, clothes dryer

Layout 

The "NAN" features a remarkable ship's kitchen that is larger than typically found in yachts, a stylish bathroom with a bathtub, two cabins, an elegant salon, and a comfortable aft deck that invites relaxation outdoors.

The owner's cabin is located midship on the port side and features a custom-made dresser and a wardrobe with fine woodwork. A queen-size bed with a nightstand completes this elegant cabin. NAN impresses with a stylish interior.

At the stern of the ship is the guest cabin with two single beds, a built-in dresser, and a spacious wardrobe. A ladder leads from there to the aft deck, which is shaded by a bimini and has space for 2-4 chairs.

The salon/living area is characterized by plenty of light and a warm ambiance. The large windows invite you to look out at the water, and the high-gloss wood in the interior radiates coziness. The bathroom features an original cast iron bathtub.

Galley/Ship's Kitchen

• Spacious ship's kitchen with plenty of storage. Beautiful, with original cast iron sink and high-gloss wood countertops.

• Original Dickinson Adriatic oil stove with the original stainless steel chimney (fully functional, the owner suggests re-lining and refurbishing it from the inside)

• 30-gallon hot water tank

• New stainless steel fresh water tanks (installed by previous owners)

• Original sink with new, classically styled faucets that match the boat

• Two refrigerators

• Raymarine radar and AIS (send and receive) (2019)

• Interphase depth sounder/finder (currently not functional)

Known required work:

• Salon needs new carpet

• Cleaning of the fresh water tank recommended (current owner has connected directly to the fresh water network of the marina)

• Some bronze/brass fittings, especially around the helm, need polishing due to corrosion

• Original bathtub slightly dull (can be restored)

• Engine room could use a new coat of paint

• Buffet top needs to be refurbished/resealed
