The Zuiderzee was launched in 1921 in Boom as the sailing cargo clipper Red Ster, and has reportedly sailed with cargo between the Rhine and Antwerp, from 1937 under the name Alja. In 1951, the ship came to the Netherlands. The name was changed to Actief. For more than 35 years, the clipper was used for the sand and gravel trade in the Zool near Workum. In 1987, the Clipper Actief changed owners. From that moment, the ship was restored to good condition. It was converted into a two-masted sailing clipper, and from 2001 it was sailed under the name Zuiderzee. Later, it was inhabited as a sailing houseboat. In short, a ship suitable for many purposes.
