Pantaenius Rund Skagen: Germany's longest offshore race
Sponsored article: The challenging German distance race, Pantaenius Rund Skagen, starts June 9 and looks like one for your “to do” list.
Germany's legendary Pantaenius Rund Skagen race, is due to take place on June 9, and it certainly sounds like a challenge for the 60-80 yachts that are due to take part. The bi-annual race takes place at the end of “Nordsee Woche” (June 7-9, 2014) and the 510 nautical mile course sees competitors racing from the German island of Helgoland to Kiel. Described as "Germany's most challenging open-sea regatta", the course starts in the often rough North Sea and takes participating yachts through the Skagerrak strait to the Baltic Sea, before reaching the finish line at the Kiel lightship.
Rough it might be, but the sponsors give the teams a good send off as Pantaenius provides each yacht with a bottle of Skagen rum at the pre-race skippers' meeting - although one hopes the crew waits until the end of the race to consume it! The race certainly seems one for the racer's "bucket list".
With such a challenging course, safety is obviously paramount and once again race sponsor, Pantaenius, is providing the satellite based Live Tracking Service Yellowbrick. The service ensures that even under the most adverse weather conditions race organisers and the emergency services can keep their eye on competitors.
Approved at many offshore races, Yellowbrick offers the opportunity to track every participating yacht during the race in real time. Race spectators or followers ashore can also use Yellowbrick on their PC or via a smartphone app to track the progress of their friends and family. Visit: pantaenius.com/tracking or download the Yellowbrick App.
