Push the boat out
Sailors, clubs and classes invited to help mark the Weymouth Olympic Games with a spectacular day on the water
With flags waving and the sound of confetti cannons firing the RYA officially launched it’s ‘Push the Boat Out’ event during the final weekend of the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show.
The event which takes place on July 21, 2012, one week before the start of the London 2012 Games, is aimed at encouraging everyone across the country to get out on the water and show their support for the British Sailing Team, as well as showcase what a great sport sailing is.
Sailing clubs and centres, training schools, marinas and all boaters, whether sail, motor or windsurfing, are being asked to get involved and host an event or just get on the water for the day.
“We are hoping to get as many people out on the water as possible on Push the Boat Out day,' explained Sail for Gold event coordinator Celia Edgington.
“We would love people to choose a time in the day to wave flags and show their support for the team. We’re asking people to take photos of their day, showing us what they got up to and to share them with us on the Sail for Gold Facebook page, along with any good luck messages, and we’ll share them with the British Sailing Team before they do battle at the Games. But most of all we just want everyone to have great fun.”
Some clubs have already starting planning their events with ideas ranging from a mini Sail for Gold regattas and mini Olympics, to treasure hunts and have-a-go days. Push the Boat Out is just one of the many great Sail for Gold events taking place in 2012. Anyone interested in taking part in the day, or other events, can find out lots more information on the Sail for Gold website.
