Rogue wave smothers Clipper Yacht
See amazing footage of a rogue wave striking the 70ft yacht 'Great Britain' in a 55-knot gale.
The crew of a Clipper round the world race yacht were lucky to survive unscathed over the weekend when a rogue wave slammed into the side of the 70ft yacht 'Great Britain' smothering the entire cockpit in foam and water and hurling three of the crew off their seats onto the cockpit floor. See for yourself in this rare video footage of a rogue ocean wave.
Despite being knocked out cold, crew member Jim Hendry appears in the video to have made a full recovery and even requested to return to the action! The skipper described the conditions as blowing 55 knots, gusting 70. Other boats in the fleet have recorded gusts over 100 knots in the past few days.
