Description

A particularly well maintained Nauticat 33 with shallow draft. The interior benefits from having been professionally refurbished giving a light and airy interior.

General

This Nauticat 33 (NC33) was built in 1978 but sold first in 1979 (hull 518). She is a long keel version and one of the earliest with a full width aft deck and outside helm.

A retro-fit pulpit extends the forestay, anchor roller and genoa furler. These changes removed a clash between the anchor chain and forestay and moving the latter forward had the benefit of improving the boats performance to windward. The pulpit holds a 15kg Bruce “Claw” anchor.

Inboard of the pulpit is an anchor locker housing 40m of 6mm chain. The anchor is weighed and lowered by a Quick windlass with 2 x wireless remote controls or a toggle switch at the inside helm.

Fender frames (s/s 316 bar, not wire) were installed on either side just aft of the forward fairleads, each holds 3 x 70cm fenders.

There are hinged sections in the guardrail on both sides and a s/s and teak boarding ladder fits into sockets on the inside of the gunwale. The boarding ladder is stored on the outside of the guardrail on the port side of the aft deck. The lower step is below the waterline and the ladder is braced against the hull with s/s legs. This means that climbing out of the water is much easier. The sockets used by the ladder double up as sockets for an emergency ladder. This can be left in situ on passage as a safety measure. (The safety ladder itself is not included in the sale).

The calor gas cylinder is stored in a locker under the starboard step up to the aft deck. The locker has a drainage hole at the bottom to allow any gas to escape. A matching locker on the port side could be used to store a spare gas cylinder or, as at present, other equipment in a waterproof cylinder.

The guardrails stanchions around the aft deck were raised by 6 inches to bring the guardrail height to above the knee.

The aft wheel has been replaced with a full 1m diameter s/s 316 wheel.

Mounted on the wheelhouse roof is a small binnacle containing the Raymarine P70 controller for the Raymarine autopilot. There is a morse type engine throttle and a teak binocular holder. Under the overhang of the wheelhouse roof to port is the shore power connection and on the starboard side a waterproof 240v 3 pin socket. On the same side is a RAM 3 remote mic/speaker/display attached to the DSC VHF radio. This remote control has full control over the VHF radio and its display can show everything the main display shows.

There is a suite of 4 sails comprising cruising chute (lightly used), genoa(lightly used), main and mizzen sails (both original).

There is a Sleipner Sidepower 80kw Bow Thruster

Accommodation

The forward cabin has a twin “V” berth with in-fill foam to create a double. There are lockers above both berths and lockers under the starboard berth accessible from the side. All designed for clothes. There is a locker under the port berth accessible from the top for more general storage. The Windlass control box is inside the starboard over-berth locker. Under the berths at the apex is the bow thruster, its dedicated “blue-top” Optima battery and c-tek charger. The charger is powered from the 240v ring main off a fused spur. This avoided the necessity of excessively heavy-duty DC cabling aft to the engine/battery banks. The charger “on/off” switch is located in the berth side wall adjacent to the battery monitor (NASA – BM1) and the thruster’s isolator switch. Adjacent to these is a twin 240v ring main socket. There is also an outlet for the eberspacher air heater.

The Sleipner Side-power SE80 bow thruster is controlled by a joystick located at the outside helm or by a wireless remote control. This bow thruster is rated at 80kg and is effectively one size more than normally spec’d for a 10m boat. This higher spec was chosen to allow for the relatively high windage and long keel.

There are 3 ceiling mounted LED light fittings controlled individually and an LED “subdued lighting” strip to starboard controlled by an infrared controller.

The cabin soles throughout the boat are covered in a blue carpet tile of an industrial but soft rating for comfort and ease of cleaning. Each tile can be lifted but when laid quickly settles and doesn’t curl etc. They have been laid for over 4 seasons and I have spare tiles.

Under the forward cabin sole are 2 sea-cocks. The smaller bore supplies sea water to the WC the other takes the black water out.

To port is the combined head/basin/shower. The WC is a Jabsco liteflush electric macerator. The basin is on drawer runners so that it can be locked out of the way when using the head or shower creating a bigger floor space for the shower. The shower and basin drain into a grey water sump which pumps out via the galley sink sea-cock.

Opposite is a hanging locker with shelves on the hull wall. A “wardrobe” type light switch comes on automatically when the doors are opened. A powder fire extinguisher is mounted on the bulkhead above the hanging locker.

Aft of the head/locker bulkhead is the saloon to port and galley to starboard.

Set into the saloon/galley forward bulkhead is a pair of Sony marine waterproof speakers. There is a hot air outlet in the side of the bunk.

The galley was replaced completely in 2013. It now incorporates a Waeco 240v/12v fridge, Nelson cooker with 2 rings, grill and oven plus a 240v x 600 watt microwave. There is a double sink, lockers at worktop level and under and drawers under. The 2nd of 2 gas isolators is under the galley sink against the aft bulkhead.  There is a broom handle  stored at “skirting board” height under the cupboard overhang. A rubbish bin holder slides out from the cupboard shelf. There are 6 wall/ceiling LED light fittings as well as LED subdued lighting. The 2 ceiling/wall lights over the galley are switchable between red and white light for use on night passages.

Within the insulated engine box is an automatic fire extinguisher triggered by a temperature sensitive glass vial.

4 LED ceiling lights are switchable between red and white light.

2 x Sony marine waterproof speakers are ceiling mounted.

Moving aft down a set of companionway steps leads to the aft cabin. The shaft gland greaser is located under the steps.

To starboard is a head with Jabsco liteflush electric macerator WC and a set of drawers for clothes. Inside the cabin and also to starboard is a free-standing basin with lockers under.

Far aft under the shelf is access to the hydraulic steering gear including an emergency tiller and the Raymarine autopilot hydraulic gear.

To port is an emergency parallel switch which puts the domestic batteries into the engine start-up circuit should the main crank engine fail. Under the binnacle is the main isolator for the windlass.

To starboard in a locker is a 1kw inverter, an inverter isolator switch and a source selector switch which switches between shore-power and batteries.

A manual bilge pump can be operated from the wheelhouse.

Fused spur under chart table for laptop etc. (note laptop is not included)

Fused spur switch for external 240v socket on aft binnacle

1 x morse type engine control

1 x Raymarine Es 7” display and autopilot controller. The system is powered by Lighthouse software and a choice of chart suppliers. (Charting is licensed to vendor so not included with the sale). The system allows for manual steering, autopilot following a bearing or full tracking taking into account tidal currents. (For full details see Raymarine website) The main control is in the binnacle beneath the inside helm. The Es used an actisense interface to pick up AIS data from the DSC VHF (see below), log speed and depth from the Tak Tik controller and in turn generates the GPS data using an external antenna and supplies this data to the DSC VHF.

The Standard Horizon GX2100 receives the GPS data uses a split VHF aerial feed (aerial mounted on the top of the mizzen mast) to create an AIS plot and provide direct MMSI calling to AIS targets. The DSC VHF also provides target bearing, SOG, COG, CPA and time to CPA.
