Traditional luxury wooden sailing yacht builder Spirit Yachts has ventured into the powerboat market before building one-off designs for specific customer requirements, however, the P40 represents a foray into the open market for this Suffolk yard, as Alex Smith describes in the video below filmed at Cannes Yacht Festival.

The Mediterranean coupe design has a small bow cabin to sleep two that is far from expansive, but should easily sleep a couple for a weekend. However, the centre of attention on board is the vast cockpit aft of the helm with its deep, comfortable seats and expansive sun pads.

The standard twin Yanmar 260hp engines will see the boat top out at around 40 knots and Alex predicts the all wooden construction should make for a much softer ride at those speeds than the rigidity so commonly found in glass-fibre boats.
