Jeanneau Leader 46: new flagship announced
Alex Smith previews the soon-to-be-released Jeanneau Leader 46.
August 14, 2015
Jeanneau’s Leader line has been expanded from three to four courtesy of a new range-topping 46-footer.
The idea with the Leader 46 is to take the established Leader formula (namely, a sporting hull from J&J Design, generous exterior spaces and innovative interiors) and combine that with more dramatic aesthetics and a more lavish and luxurious finish.
Available with IPS propulsion or stern drive, the profile from Garroni Design certainly achieves Jeanneau’s stylistic ambitions, with a shape that employs large, aggressively angled window sections to modify and upgrade the look without abandoning the Leader DNA. And when you investigate the upper deck, there appears to be similar clarity in the layout...
The main level is divided into three distinct living spaces: a central saloon, with a diagonal walkway for maximum seating capacity; an aft deck with big swim platform all set around an integrated galley and tender garage; and a foredeck with a large, flat lounger and adjustable headrests, built into the front of the coachroof. To increase the versatility of the aft deck, the ‘Sport Top’ moulding can also be equipped with an optional glass panel that (like the primary sunroof above the saloon) slides open to help bathe the passengers in sunshine.
Down below, the use of wide windows in the hull, new fabrics for the furnishings and extra care over the indirect funneling of natural light from the upper deck has resulted in accommodation of impressive modernity. The full-beam master cabin, with its King Size bed and modular head and shower compartment, is of course the highlight, but the clean-cut Jeanneau approach also makes the 46’s more modestly proportioned spaces feel uncommonly generous. The guest cabin comes with private head and shower compartment, plus convertible berths and plentiful storage. And the saloon continues the theme with big sea views, a decent galley and the option of a three-cabin configuration that is particularly well suited to the closed Sport Top version.
