The Boston Whaler 170 Montauk is a beautiful boat in terms of practicability. The Boston Whaler range has been around for many years, the first version of this boat appeared in the 1970s. The hull is well-proven and on this particular model they have emphasised the deep v at the front.
What Boston has done with the 170 Montauk is turn a rugged workboat into a really sociable and comfortable boat. The power comes from 115HP Mercury, which gives a top speed of somewhere around 47MPH.
It is the aft section where the boat really comes into its own. The seat at the rear has a bolster that lifts up to create a sociable seating area, or down to give a sun lounging area, or for a waterski observation post.
In the forward section the cushions are designed to fold in half so they are easy to stow, and below them is a storage area and the anchor locker. The helm counsel is very comfortable, with space for your feet and a nicely angled backrest. The instrumentation is standard, there is hydraulic steering and a built in fuel tank.
A safe, practical workhorse that has been polished for the 21st century.
