Large aft swim platforms are all well and good in the roasting hot climate of the Mediterranean summer, but for the rest of us, the extended cockpit lounge area of the Bavaria Sport 330 Open is perhaps a better use of space, as Alex Smith reports from Cannes Yachting Festival.

In fact, the 330 Open offers the best of both worlds: for anyone determined to get in the shivering cold water along the UK coast, there is the option of a swim platform extension. Beyond that, the boat diverges from the 300 in various subtle but telling ways. Opposite the helm station there is a curved moulding that adds extra seating space within earshot and view of the wheel. Down below, the removal of the bulkhead between fore and aft spaces opens up the entire living area and makes the boat ideal for family cruising.
