The 2011 UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) Environmental Award, which was launched to inspire excellence in the application of eco-friendly technologies, has been won by Azimut’s Magellano 50.

Magellano 50 Azimut

This 50-foot motorboat is designed to enable extended cruising alongside genuine respect for the environment. Not only does it enjoy Class CE A (NMMA Certification) but it has also enabled Azimut to become the first shipyard in the world to achieve RINA ‘Green Plus’ notation in the mid-sized vessel segment (under 50 feet).

In practical terms, the Magellano meets all the key green criteria. She uses a pair of electronically controlled, new-generation 425hp Cummins common rail engines, allied to a high-performance hull and propellers. She also uses anti-UV film on the glass surfaces to help reduce heat loss, as well as functions to help track fuel consumption and tank levels, with a charging and discharging log. The lights are all ultra-efficient LEDs and the principal fibreglass components are all constructed by means of infusion lamination.

Paolo Casani, CEO of Azimut Yachts, said: “Creating luxury products while paying maximum respect to the environment and workers has always been part of Azimut’s DNA. This award is additional confirmation that we are steering in the right direction!”
