Typical broker comments: “Paper Moon” is back afloat after a huge refit including new engine sails and rig, she is one of only 19 SY 50’s built by Sweden Yachts yard under Lloyds survey in 1990.
SY themselves were rightly proud of this design, coining the phrase “Super Cruiser” for them - these are not just words for once. Noted now for its classic qualities, an SY50 is a superb, quality proposition from one of the top 5 yards in the world in the 90’s.
The yachts sail superbly, designed by Norlin Ostmann, the racing DNA of the marque is unmistakable, particularly in the 6.5 Tonne wing keel and really substantial cutter rig by Seldon. The wing keel, shallow draft of 1.98M is extremely important for a boat of this class to safely access some of the more desirable anchorages. Very much a racer- cruiser SY50 deviates from racing boats with the provision of a stunningly crafted interior, not only does it look beautiful, it is a welcoming secure home, highly functional at a remote anchorage or offshore. This very original example has been lightly used and has the benefit of electric winches and a generator and is rigged for serious racing. She benefits from a recent full survey ashore is now seriously for sale afloat, following a recent massive professionally executed refit.
Professional executed and supervised full refit ashore lasting 18 months, documented works totaling in excess of £150,000. Receipts for all works to be included in sale. she was ashore since 2018 Lagos, Portugal then refit ashore by new owner at Morgan Marine yard, Essex 2020 - 2023.
Accommodation summary
Three sleeping cabins, saloon and two heads with showers. Aft starboard , double and bunk bed above making 3-berths. Access direct to aft heads with shower. Port aft sleeping cabin double berth with direct access to aft heads. Saloon with 8-10 seat dining area, separate sofa pilot berth to starboard. Master cabin suite forward with head and separate shower area. Queen size bed with Dux mattress. All berths have lee cloths. All sleeping cabins have hanging locker with interior lamps. Cabin soles all gloss varnished teak and holly.

Broad fully documented refit concluded May August 2020 – May 2023 ashore. Receipts available detailing scope of works.
Decks inspected and teak replaced by new Flexiteek. All deck work by the brand agent Seadek Ltd. In 2022.
New Yanmar 110hp engine fitted and commissioned by main agents, new North Sails, New upgraded shaft and 21” 4 blade “feather stream” feathering type propellor (2023), Wing Keel removed for inspection and refitted and faired professionally. Keel bolt inspection photographic record available. All new standing rigging, terminations and running rigging (Evolution rigging Suffolk, 2023). Furlex Genoa drum stripped and serviced professionally.
The rig, both running and standing has been replaced professionally this year. This includes spinnaker halyards reefing pennants etc. The spars are a very robust design and are in excellent order. These are the as fitted original Selden mast and boom these have been carefully inspected by Evolution rigging and any small defects repaired such as sheaves. The rig was re-stepped professionally by evolution including new gaiter. It also includes 2X Selden Spi-poles stowed on deck.
All through hulls and seacocks and required hoses replaced professionally 2022 in DZR. Interior upgrades including new updated headlining fitted in saloon (professionally 2023). New carpets and curtains professionally installed. Eberspracher diesel heating professionally overhauled in workshop and recommissioned.
New start and service batteries throughout wiring upgraded or updated. New service alternator. New Plotters B&G, AIS, Digital yacht 4G connect wifi comms system. Most pumping and piping systems upgraded and hoses replaced. New bilge and shower pumps. Updated shower system. Fuel and water tanks removed cleaned and new instrumentation fitted. Mat fully rewired and serviced. Winches all stripped and serviced. Windlass sent to specialist stripped and tested.
Hull professionally compounded and polished new 2 year International antifoul applied.
Documentation: Original ships drawings for each system (5 drawings) in A2 format onboard. Deck bible in folder. Manuals and instructions onboard in file.
