ELISA VARGAS is a fine example of a George Buehler cruising yacht. Simplistic by nature, yet solid as an oar, ELISA VARGAS can take you to that one particular harbor comfortably and with a true traditional feel.

Wood. Douglas fir planking, frames, structural keel, backbone, deadwood and floor timbers. Strapping and fastening are galvanized steel. Deck is three layers of epoxied 3/8" douglas fir plywood covered with three layers of 6oz. fiberglass, ring nailed. Deck trim is northern spruce. Cabin roof material is the same as the deck, beams are 2"x3" Philippine mahogany. Self-bailing cockpit is 3/8" tongue & groove over plywood. Tiller steering. Outside is 3000lbs of ballast, inside is 2000lbs. The ELISA VARGAS has a grey hull, white boottop, black bottom and white deck. According to her owner/builder she was built very strong and is in excellent condition.

Electronics and Navigation

Ritchie Navigator compass, Icom IC-M59 VHF, Furuno 1715 radar, Garmin 421 GPS, Furuno RD30 "Smart Sensor" depth sounder.

Equipment

Two electric bilge pumps, one manual bilge pump, two Kidde fire extinguishers, horn, flares, strobe, boathook, three fenders, two spreader lights, boarding ladder, safety harness, single lifelines and sail covers.

Ground Tackle

Two anchors - 35# Plow and 70# Fisherman with chain and rode. Bow roller.

Sails and Rigging

Cutter rig. Main and staysail by Bayview Sails, Freeport, ME 2005. Jib by Haarstick Sails, Wickford, RI 2008. Sail covers by Haarstick, 2009. Laminated rectangular mast is made of northern white spruce and is tapered at the top. It is 35' from the water line and is stepped on the keel. Booms are solid laminated northern white spruce. Standing rigging material is 3/8" galvanized with Liverpool splices, serviced and parceled with nylon. Turnbuckles are 3/8" galvanized steel. Halyards are 5/8" sta-set as is sheet material. Lewmar 43 winches.

Accommodations

Sleeps four in one double berth and a convertible dinette. One composting head. Galley has a double sink, Hillebrand propane stove with 3 burners and an oven and an icebox made of epoxied plywood. Interior is painted northern spruce, cabin sole is polyurethaned douglas fir.

Electrical

12 volt lighting and starting. 55 amp Motorola engine alternator. One 12 volt starter and two 12 volt 450 amp house batteries. Circuit breakers. Guest Smart charger, Blue Sea 9001 master switch, E-link battery monitor, 110 volt shore power. The builder tells us that all wiring meets ABYC standards and is neatly installed in a professional manner.

Tanks

22 gallon epoxied plywood fuel tank, 22 gallon epoxied plywood water tank.

Engine

34 hp Yanmar. 1990, 3 cylinder, fresh water cooled diesel engine. Approximately 50 hours. Bronze three-blade propeller with 1 1/4" bronze shaft. Cruising speed 6 knots, maximum speed 7 knots.
