Karibu – A swahili 'Welcome' aboard!
Launched in 2013, Oyster 885-02 Karibu is now offered for sale exclusively through Oyster Brokerage and can be inspected through the Palma office. She is in exceptional condition and is now aggressively priced for a quick sale.
Extensively detailed for an owner intent on both high performance and high level comfort, her spec is as impressive as her success in meeting these demanding objectives. She’s cruised and raced both the Med and Caribbean in the hands of a most competent, caring crew responding to a fastidious owner who never chartered, though the boat is well set for this with MCA Class 2 certification.
The accommodation, themed in light limed-oak, savannah leathers and soft white panelling, comprises three suites aft of the raised deck saloon with a fourth convertible cabin forward of the lower deck atrium with its navigation and control stations. Additional bunks can be mounted in the two twin-bedded suites aft, elevating guest berthing to 10. Natural and mood lighting abound with huge seascape hull windows and touch light switching with swap-out to red night lights. For freshness the neatly concealed forced air ventilation system flushes the accommodation air space six times hourly.
The enclosable crew accommodation forward provides excellent living quarters, for four, and a full professional galley with everything from extensive stowage and refrigeration through to a tertiary steam oven. It’s a secure, well planned working space and from here there’s discreet access to the immaculate, well sorted, standing height engine room. The placing and spacing of hardware and ancillaries is laid according to ease of servicing needs and reach with impeccable installation and labelling. The engine is a 350hp Cummins, generators have been upgraded to equal 22.5kW units, and watermakers, pumps, manifolds, Mastervolt electronic power management system are all immediately to hand and closeby the workbench.
With extensive noise and vibration attenuation from massive insulation to soft joins and seals throughout from pipe and cable mounts to pull-tight doors, drawers and floors, Karibu’s a very quiet boat with only a warm mumble in operation.
For simplified sail handling, beyond the standard captive winch for stylish single-point mainsheet, a second concealed captive was specified for main halyard hauling and quick reefing from the safety of the twin consoled cockpit. Then the towering, four-spreader, white painted Hall carbon spar was given higher spec discontinuous CSR (carbon standing rigging) with titanium ends in place of conventional stainless rod. A first for Oyster, this takes a tonne out of the rig for a lighter, stiffer and higher winded boat.
Underway her extensively tank tested plumb bow, soft chined broad stern and twin rudder Humphreys design make for exceptional handling on and off the wind, her skipper reporting sailing to 25° apparent with 10knots showing on the B&G repeaters (mast as well as cockpit) in little more breeze . Her 8 sail wardrobe, competition and cruising, is all from Elvstrom whose team have regularly raced and updated Karibu, so with sails and systems optimised, it’s no surprise she notches double figures easily with code sails. Prime hardware/hydraulics are Navtec/Reckmann/Lewmar and decks are clear and uncluttered with flush hatches and pop-up windlass set into the long, sweeping, seamless teak decks with tender recess on the foredeck doubling as cushioned sun-pit when the 4.2m rib is hoisted out into the water.
Aft of the ergonomically contoured and fitted twin cockpit arrangement which neatly divides social and working areas, providing well for all, the sundeck with full-beam, deep lazarette for toys, fenders and dive compressor leads through the stays to the fold-down stern platform sided by telescopic stainless steel passarelle waiting to welcome you on board.
Your inspection awaits.
