Description

PRICE AGGRESSIVELY REDUCED FOR QUICK SALE

The original big Oyster and the yacht that built the Oyster brand.  The Oyster 53 was introduced in 1985, after pioneering the deck salon sailboat concept with the Oyster 46 in 1979.  Designed by the prestigious British designer Holman & Pye, the Oyster 53 was created to be a fast, ocean going, heavy cruiser, capable of 200 mile days and easily handled by a cruising couple.  A total of 49 hulls were built between 1985 and the mid 1990’s, but the yacht was renamed the Oyster 55 in 1991 following the addition of a 2 foot extension of the hull at the transom (and no other changes).   In 1996, the Oyster 53/55 was reintroduced as the Oyster 56, with a redesign by Rob Humphreys.  The Oyster 53 design catapulted Oyster to become the pre-eminent British yacht builder, and these first generation Holman & Pye yachts are regarded as the most overbuilt of the Company’s fleet over the years.

These yachts are hard to find for sale, and this particular vessel has been meticulously maintained over the years.  With all sails furling, everything on the boat can be managed without leaving the cockpit.  The owner has singlehanded many times, showing the manageability of this yacht.  The interior is gorgeous and the boat constantly gets compliments.  A huge aft cabin, a huge v-berth and a spacious bunk room provide accommodations for 5-6 people, and no one has to sleep in the main salon.  For entertaining, the large engraved teak dining table easily seats 8 adults.  With large windows in the main salon and 23 opening hatches, this yacht is bright and airy, and none of the hatches leak.  New sails and lots of other new equipment, plus outstanding upgrades such as a generator that runs on propane or gasoline, make this yacht well equipped for life on the water.

Owner is reluctant to sell but his career is calling him back.  If you are looking for a comfortable, spacious yacht that is heavily built and eats miles on passage, inquiries are strongly encouraged.  A viewing will show that this is an excellent yacht with comfort, safety, performance and market leading aesthetics.
