Wooden Ships Comments

Built by Ernest J. Woods of Horning, Norfolk in 1930 to a design by G. Cozens.  No doubt inspired by the working boats, she has a gently curved stem and raked transom with an elegant sheer and well proportioned rig making her a preety and capable yacht.  Raced regularly by the previous owner in OGA events with great success, she was also used as a cruising boat with visits to Holland, France and the Scillies, proving her sea worthiness and capability.

The present owner has fitted a second hand Yanmar diesel making her a little more user friendly for modern sailing.

Wooden Ships Comments on this Custom designed gaff cutter

Designed and built for the present owners after their previous old working boat passed the point of no return and headed for the bonfire.  It was decided they wanted a boat with traditional lines, gaff rigged but with a bit more speed and performance than they were used to.

With underwater lines inspired by the mini Transat race yachts, the design was formalised by Justin Adams and built by the experienced and skilled shipwright Ivan Jefferies and launched in 2003.  With traditional construction methods and materials, she is a careful blend of old and new which appears to have worked very well.

Her striking and very vintage above water lines hide an ultra modern underwater profile which gives her incredible performance powered by the large sail of the gaff cutter rig.  She has a spacious cockpit, ideal for the regatta racing crew but comfortable on a passage when cruising.  The interior is basic but was never a priority for the owners who have rarely used her for overnight sailing.

A smart and very unusual boat in fine condition.  Only for sale due to advancing years.
