In addition to the lightweight 4, 5 and 6hp models (which will be available to test complete with their new “Nebular Black” designs), Suzuki is set to reveal two new midrange outboard engines. In traditional pre-show fashion, we don’t yet know what they are, but the unveiling will be carried out on stand E056 on Tuesday September 20, 2016.
A selection of Suzuki’s partner boat builders will also be exhibiting, with RIBS, sports boats, fishing boats and commercial vessels, all available to view and demo on the Suzuki berths. Highlights will include Brig, Cambrian, Excel, F-RIB, Hydrosport, Karnic, MRL, Piscator, Ribeye, Ribcraft, Redbay and Warrior. Gemini will also be there with its long-awaited 6.5-metre leisure RIB – and having already enjoyed a sneak peek of it in build, we can guarantee it will be well worth a look.
There will once again be free RIB rides on the popular Suzuki RIB Experience, courtesy of a DF250-powered Ribcraft RIB and a wheelchair-accessible Cheetah catamaran called ‘Wetwheels’, with a twin rig of DF300s. And there will also be bargains to be had - not least with a free safety and security package worth up to £660 on a selection of outboards from 50hp to 300hp. This comprises two Suzuki-branded Spinlock lifejackets and Datatag Security Marking on 50 to 90hp models, with the addition of a free Ocean Safety personal locator beacon on 100hp to 300hp models.
From the lightweight DF2.5 right up to the flagship DF300AP, Suzuki’s outboards can be found on berths M519 to M545 and on shore (in Mayflower Park) on stand E056. And if outboard engines really aren’t your thing, well go along anyway. Thatchers Cider has formed an unexpected partnership with Suzuki and for weekend visitors, there are free tasters to be had.
Meanwhile, Honda also has a number of new launches planned, the 2016 Southampton Boat Show seems set to be a strong one for new engine launches.
